Since 1996, Leslie has conducted workshops for educational leaders, teachers, coaches, librarians, tech integrators, curriculum coordinators and teaching teams. Drawing upon her extensive experience working in K-12 education, Leslie creates unique, specialized professional learning for each workshop. To do so she considers background and history of the context, learning goals, and desired outcomes. Each GID workshop includes best practice in adult learning and teacher effectiveness strategies in use. These strategies have proven to help participants to become facilitators of learning and feel confident in their ability to apply the concepts learned to their own classroom or school.
Professional Development Workshops
We offer workshops that introduce the Guided Inquiry Design process to:
school and district leaders, administrators, teachers, librarians, technology specialists, or anyone who needs the background knowledge on our instructional design to begin the shift to inquiry based learning.
This workshop supports educators to shift their focus to facilitating student learning through inquiry. Through an interactive session using examples of student engagement, facilitation strategies, and the GID model, participants determine what content could be taught using an inquiry based approach as they open their minds to teaching through inquiry.
“This workshop is by far one of the best to help me make my teaching richer and more meaningful.”
The Guided Inquiry Design® Institute
Changing teachers into instructional designers for Inquiry Based Learning.
A proven three-day institute first implemented at Rutgers University at the CiSSL Summer session. Past institutes have had dramatic results such as award winning units and complete district shifts to inquiry learning. Participants attend in school based teams including teachers with their librarian. The Guided Inquiry Design® institute encourages deep learning about the inquiry process, using facilitated team work time for designing a prototype unit of Guided Inquiry ready for implementation.
“We were very fortunate to have Leslie Maniotes in our district for a three day institute on Guided Inquiry Design. She modeled the format and shared practical ways to implement this in our classrooms.”
E-coaching is a cost effective way to receive ongoing and needs-based support through phone or video conferencing. Individuals or teams can contract with Leslie to engage in planning or problem-solving sessions. Professional development that has lasting effects requires more than time spent learning in workshops. Teachers have to learn, implement and reflect on their practice. Coaching and reflecting on the implementation of GID with an expert can greatly enhance teacher improvement and implementation of their practice.
“The content of Guided Inquiry Design and Leslie Maniotes’ facilitating was beneficial to all who attended which ranged from teachers of Pre-K through academic librarians working with graduate and undergraduate students. I can highly recommend Leslie Maniotes”
